I have a Windows Server 2003 development server that we use to hose a bunch of internal web servers. The box is about 4 years old but does the trick. A developer on my team wants to install .Net frameworks 3.0 and 3.5.

OS: Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP: Told it was SP4 but not sure Problems: (1) On reboot hangs at "Preparing network connections", (2) Does not allow me to boot in Safe Mode (by pressing F8 when prompted).

At work they have been doing a method of security for a long time (described below) and the manager is adamant that this is the way it should be done. I suspect that it stems from the NT4 days and with everything on the network now 2000+ and the domain at 2000 functional

When do I need to use the /3gb switch? or the /3gb /userva=3030? read somewhere that I need /3gb only when my box has between 1gb to 4gb physical memory only. anything above 4gb I do not need any switches.

I have a virtual machine that has 4GB ram. When i add the /3gb /USERVA=3030 switch to boot.ini the system behaves very slow with nothing running on the machine. When i take these switched out, the system behaves normally
