Giving a device access to EFS (Encrypting File System)30 Apr 2006 05:25 GMT2
I am developing an application that uses encrypted files which are
encrypted under EFS. My application can directly open the files fine,
but when I call the device API function to open the file, the device
cannot read the contents.
special permissions on folder don't work29 Apr 2006 11:02 GMT1
I can't figure this out.  It should work but doesn't.  We have a folder
called Data on our file server, and a folder in there called Client.  All
users should be able to make a folder, sub folders and files in the Client
folder.

Does anyone know how to block toolbars before they download? I have
seen a number of tools that remove them after the fact. I have also
tried restricting user rights. I have created a GPO to block the
toolbars but it has a high admin overhead and doesnt work on windows
Remote monitoring of NT services in Windows Servers.28 Apr 2006 15:26 GMT4
I am trying to remotely monitor the services that are running on
various versions of Windows Server (2000 through to 2003 SP1), and have
found that to do so, I need to use the credentials of a user account
that is a member of the local administrator group. I'm wondering if
Disabling Interactibg Login for Service Accounts28 Apr 2006 15:22 GMT2
Is there any way that I can prevent certain accounts (service accounts used
for applications) from being used to logon interactively (i.e though physical
logon at the machine, terminal services, Remote Desktop).
The way I see it, one way to accomplish this would be to grant the ...
AD administrators and domain admins groups28 Apr 2006 15:20 GMT1
What is the main difference, in terms of user privilege, between the
administrators group and domain admins group in active directory?
Accounts in either groups allow me to manage AD. It seems that only the
domain admins group can administer domain workstations and servers.
Maximum machine account password age28 Apr 2006 15:17 GMT8
The default value for "Domain member: Maximum machine account password age"

offline for more than 30 days. Will windows try to change the computer ...
Start and Stop Services Remotely Under Non-Administrative User28 Apr 2006 14:56 GMT3
I've been wanting to have a non-administrative user stop and start some
custom services on Windows 2000 and 2003 Server machines. I can give
them access locally without them being member of the administrators
group, but not remotely, what are the necessary permissions for that?
Security of a Windows 2003 VPN Question28 Apr 2006 08:17 GMT3
How secure is Windows 2003 VPN? I understand the data transmission
encryption, but I'm curious about the security of the network. When one
installs the VPN on an standalone 03 server one has to shut off the Windows
firewall service.
Windows 2003 Problem with Group Policy for Services Startup and Permissions27 Apr 2006 22:33 GMT1
We just finished assisting microsoft with an issue that I feel needs to
be put out there due to lack of information on the topic.  Even though
its a unique scenario.  In a nutshell here is the problem.
All of our windows 2000 workstations in our enterprise lost their
Group Policy26 Apr 2006 11:27 GMT3
I have disabled  the policy of 'Password must meet complexity requirements'
in my OU Group Policy.  And I realize that GP has been successfully applied
onto my XP client from GPRESULT.  However, the Local Policy Setting in the my
XP client doesn't show this policy is disabled,  ...

Windows Defender conflicts with spooler26 Apr 2006 03:02 GMT1
I am running Windows Server 2003 Terminal Services and upgraded anti-spyware
to Windows Defender.  It appeared successful; however, it caused the server
to crash several times before I relieved it was the cause.
The server would start to get sluggish and then eventually reboot.  ...

Is there any way to export IPsec policies to XML or other "plain text"
format? Optionally, is there any .ipsec files editor/reporter?
I need to make such a report of IPSec policies of our servers and i'd like
to not make it manually :)
