Old DNS question26 Feb 2010 09:55 GMT6
I'm sure this has been answered before, but for the life of me I can't
find the answer.
My company (SmallCo) has been acquired by BigCo and we now have to use
some of their corporate services.
2nd NIC keeps registering in DNS on Win2k826 Feb 2010 08:47 GMT2
A little background first. I have roughly 5 DC's in my domain. 3 of which are
Win2k8, and 2 are still Win2k3. The Win2k3 DC's will eventually be upgraded
to Win2k8 within the next 3 months.
Two of the Win2k8 DC's have multiple NIC's for a SANs solution. The LAN NIC
Windows 2003 DHCP / Dynamic DNS / Scavenging help26 Feb 2010 04:58 GMT10
I have inherited what seems to be a pretty poorly configured DHCP /
DNS infrastructure.  We have a bad problem with duplicate PTR records
and old stale A records.  I've been trying to get everything under
control.
Remote Desktop25 Feb 2010 15:44 GMT3
Often I need to wait quite a long time until I can connect via remote
desktop to a started machine within my domain. Even when the log-on dialog is
ready, rdp-connection needs some more time until it can connect. All machines
are whithin the same office.
Exporting / Importing DNS Zones24 Feb 2010 21:44 GMT4
Setting up a new 2008 R2  AD/DNS server.  What is the easiest way to get the
DNS zones off the old 2008 server and on to the new one?  I see you can
migrate them from one server to the other, but is there a simplier way?
Like export/import?
2008 R2 DC DNS Server Starts then Stops After Reboot23 Feb 2010 13:57 GMT5
I have just promotoed two new 2008 R2 domain controllers into an existing
2003 forest. DCPromo process went fine, but after the first reboot the DNS
server started and then stopped on both servers.
The DNS service starts but then I see the following errors in the DNS log:
Clients are no longer dynamically updating DNS23 Feb 2010 07:20 GMT12
Clients are no longer dynamically updating DNS.  Newly added clients are not
added to the DNS server.
I have one DC, one DNS server on the DC.  I have reverse setup.
Here's an error from one of my clients:
split door and listing dns records22 Feb 2010 22:48 GMT3
I'm looking for a script that prints out all the records for zone.  We
have a more than one split-door zone that were installed in AD dns
internally.  In the long run we'll be migrating to a single platform
for these zones.  But until then I was looking to automate and expand
dns server cache Question22 Feb 2010 22:46 GMT9
Thanks for your help ahead.
Question is, can one set the cache on an AD DNS server for a specific
external zone to be less than the rest of the zones cached?  We have a
vendor that has a TTL of 6 hours.
Is this a DNS issue or something else?21 Feb 2010 18:21 GMT8
Our DNS server appears to be working OK, no errors show in the DNS event
log, PTR and A records are created OK.
We have a software application that has to run on computers with a static IP
so all machines are configured this way.

DNS does not display client records18 Feb 2010 03:00 GMT4
My network is forest and domain function 2003. All DNS servers build in with

switches, printers and PCs with static IP are ...
