As i've read name resolution should take place in this orded:
1. DNS
2. LLMNR
3. netBIOS

I've setup the following :
Client (Vista business; 192.168.1.135/24)--(Router/gateway;
192.168.1.1/24)--ISP--Remote location(router;192.168.0.1/24)--(server2008;
VPN; 192.168.0.253/24)--(XP client machine; "HOSTNAME" 192.168.0.102)

I'm reading on name resolution and experimenting along the way.
My configuration in question is :
1. XP computer DHCP
2. Windows Vista  computer DHCP, netBIOS disabled
