Why is Microsoft Windows Server 2008 determined to put an entry in the DNS
for each interface on the server it resides? In the TCP/IP settings for the
interface under the DNS tab I have "Register this connection's addresses in
DNS" disabled so it shouldn't be adding it in the DNS ...

My IPS will not create a reverse lookup PTR record for our IP address.
My company has 3 locations - 3 different ISPs and only this one will not
create a PTR unless we move our DNS records to their hosting site.
How can I get around this? Can I create a PTR on my domain ...

I have a single domain with 2 Win2003 DC Servers.  Both DC's have DNS
installed.  Both DC DNS Servers listen on their own IP.   Is the the IP
Address for DC DNS Server A supposed to be input someplace into the DNS
settings on Server B and vice versa?    I was thinking it should ...

Hi! I know it will sound crazy but from some Windows XP machines (with SP2
or SP3) I am not able to access microsoft.com sites until I manualy restart
DNS client service. I can access any other site like hotmail.com,
live.com... But anything ending with microsoft.com is ...

My DNS server needs to be restarted every 2 days or so, as a temporary fix I
have used OpenDNS to resolve this, everything works fine with OpenDNS.  I
understand there is an issue with domain names .uk and SBS2008 DNS.  Is this
the case?

I have a windows 2008 server setup as a virtual server HOST.   I have the DNS
correct and pointing to our DNS server  and domain Controller.  However, when
I do a nslookup it always fails.   I can ping the domain controller by IP
address, but not my name.  The windows 2008 server ...

We are looking at enabling scavenging and aging on our Windows 2003 DNS
servers. Our primary DNS server is "BIND"  All windows 2003 DNS server zone
transfer is configured to the 3 BIND DNS servers, our DHCP Server also BIND.

We are using DHCP and DNS on a Windows 2003 server.   We are finding a very
large number of old DNS records.  I understand that if someone renames a
machine or abruptly takes a machine offline, the record will not be purged.  
However, shouldn't DNS still be purging the records ...

is there any way to exclude a specific host from the DNS cache on a Windows
machine? (any Windows, the same issue)
Ie: all DNS lookups should be cached BUT the specific host
www.microsoft.com, which should always be resolved from the DNS server. (this

This is my scenario: I have two sites at remote locations. Site A has two
domain controllers for Domain A. At Site B I promoted a DC for a new domain

I am using SonicWall global vpn clients to connect to my network & then use
remote desktop to connect to a desktop at work to work after hours.
This works fine for all the users except for one.
Looking at the properties for the Sonicwall virtual adapter, it's assigning
