opposed to being a separate forward zone.
Server 2003 DNS no longer working properly?30 Aug 2008 07:25 GMT3
I'm trying to get to the bottom of a tough "intermittent" Internet
connectivity problem on a network of about 40 PC's being served by a
single Win2003 Server. The server is running both DHCP and DNS and the
network provider is a standard cable modem.
How to prevent DC from trying to register on root DNS servers30 Aug 2008 07:21 GMT2
I work in an AD environment - 1 forest/root domain, 2 domains, separate
non-AD domain for web pages, email, etc.  I've noticed recently that i'm
getting the following error on a few DCs in my domains (Event ID is 5774,

unable to view parts of outside site28 Aug 2008 20:12 GMT7
The issue is that our external website for the company uses our domain as
the path to a lot of content and pictures.
Because our internal domain is the same as external, for example inside is
company.com and outside is also company.com.  With the main site;

DNS Newbie27 Aug 2008 20:01 GMT2
I am not too familiar with DNS so forgive my ignorance. I have created
another DC that will be set up in a company that we just bought. Their
network is on a different subnet. I have installed DNS on the server and it
has replicated all of the records from the other DNS servers ...
Complying with RFC2181 5.4.1 and GoDaddy "hosts"27 Aug 2008 14:13 GMT5
I have an Active Directory domain controller with the DNS server installed
and running fine. This server's DNS port is exposed to the Internet through
the network's firewall so queries against the server can be made. The Active
Directory domain name is registered with GoDaddy ...
Win 2003 AD Issue27 Aug 2008 13:58 GMT3
I demoted win 2003 server to that of workgroup.  Then, I uninstalled and,
after, installed the dns server.
Looking at the reverse lookup zones on the dns server, I found that SOA and
NS records are still pointing to the fully qualified old somain name.
Interforest trust - Trouble finding GC from child domain from trus26 Aug 2008 18:00 GMT1
I set up a two-way external trust between my newly created W2K8 domain in a
new forest and a W2K child domain in an existing forest. Everything seems to
be working fine, my trust is up and running and verifies OK. Cross-domain
authentication etc. works fine. I have a secondary ...

CNAME Lookup/Cache Failing26 Aug 2008 00:02 GMT3
My Windows Server 2003 SP2 DNS server isn't looking up CNAME records from
certain domains, but does for others. I have a feeling the problem is in the
response code from certain DNS servers. For example, docs.wcg.org does NOT
work while docs.whotookthebeef.com does.
