Scenario: When connected to network via MS VPN, some machine names can not be resolved. the work around I have been using is connecting via internal IP or connecting (via rdp) to another hostname and then rdp-ing to the hostname i originally wanted to connect to. Any ideas?

Hi and thank you... Small AD domain with (2) DNS servers (not split brain, we have our externals handled by ISP) - Question is: IN configuration, as far as "listening on" which IP address?

After many tcp/ip problems (resolved) on a w2k server domain controler, I had to reinstall AD integrated DNS server, The problem is that it is uncomplete, (nothing like _msdc or _site in the tree)

I have a Windows 2k3 server std. ed. configured with 2 NICs. DNS and AD is configured on the server. One is configured for my local network - 192.168.X.X, while the other is configured for my public network - 213.185.x.x

I have just finished setting DNS, but when i run netdiag I get a very weird error: 'server.mydomain.local.'. [WSAEADDRNOTAVAIL ] The name 'server.mydomain.local.' may not be registered in DNS.

I can no longer join computers to my mixed mode domain without "domain cannot be found" error. I've added wins to no avail. Tried lmhost file to no avail. I've confirmed that all of the settings are correct, i.e. dns, subnet, gateway, etc.

I have two seperate 2003 forests. A DHCP server is running in FOREST1. I have XP Clients in FOREST2 which get their IP and DNS details from the DHCP server in FOREST1. The XP Clients are correctly registering and updating their A record in DNS
