dns client settings - best practice29 Jul 2005 17:25 GMT3
We have clients in AD that are getting their IP addresses & dns configuration
from a Unix server. The DNS server list (ipconfig /all) on the client does
not contain the IP addresses of the MS AD DCs which are running integrated
DNS. The Unix DNS server has an entry for the AD ...

Demoting original DC29 Jul 2005 14:06 GMT1
Hi - I have a network with 2003 servers.  My original server is having
replication issues where every 2 or 3 days it becomes detached from my other
servers and if I run FRSDIAG it does not recognise its upstream partners.  If
I reboot it it is fine but then goes wrong after about ...
Which ports are to open on firewall for domain login?29 Jul 2005 13:41 GMT3
I have a client (XP Pro) which connects to our domain via VPN. We only open
ports which are needed from VPN to LAN.
Which ports have to be opened so that the client/user can connect to domain?
We tried it with MS-DS 445, LDAP 389, DNS 53, ICMP, Kerberos 88, but still
Folder Redirection29 Jul 2005 09:51 GMT2
I am currently in the process of building a Windows server 2003
infrastructure and would like to use folder redirection for user's desktop
and my documents.  I have created a few test accounts and folder redirection
is working properly.  The problem is when I try to access the ...
Backup lifetime29 Jul 2005 09:44 GMT3
How long should i keep my AD backup? I've read that 60 days-older copies
are useless because of the tombstone Lifetime. I do backups more often than
that but Iwant to know if I should keep copies older than that.
Thanks in advance.
Problems when accessing server on other domain29 Jul 2005 09:05 GMT2
We still use a NT4 domain on our production network. We recently bought a
server to use for development, on which we installed Microsoft Virtual
Server 2005 and a series of virtual servers. The virtual servers are running
on their own subnet, separated from our production network ...

XP Workstations fail to authenticate29 Jul 2005 08:42 GMT7
I'm running a machine with Server 2003 Enterprise, acting as a domain
controller and supporting roaming profiles. My workstations will allow users
to log on to the domain and will load the roaming profiles correctly, but
soon after logon I note the following event logs:
Setting Default Domain Controller29 Jul 2005 08:36 GMT2
I am migrated some of our test users in Australia to AD, but am finding that
the logon is very slow because for some reason the clients will use one of
the DC's in our Hong Kong office to log on with. Occasionally they will log
on to our local DC in Australia, and other times to ...

Sysvol?29 Jul 2005 07:02 GMT1
I noticed today that one of my DC's did not have the sysvol share
enabled.  I'm not quite sure what could have caused that but it's obviously a
concern.  So, now that I've enalbed it I can see a directory for "domain.com"
and below that one for ...
ADmodify.exe can't import all users28 Jul 2005 23:56 GMT1
I have created a export file from Admodify from a windows 2000 AD, and as per
requirements I'm importing that file on a different domain, which is running
Windows 2003 AD using the same ADmodify tool. When I run the import it
imports some of the users not all the users and it ...

Hello all.  I've got a malfunctioning domain controller.  It started by
refusing to run Windows Update.  It would appear to never complete so I ran
DCDIAG (which passed).  I also am now running NetDIAG which appears to hang
on "Testing LDAP in domain <my domain>".  All other ...
