Used encoder to encode short videos. Students embedded source in html code but will not play unless!!!! rename file extension to .avi, then immediately rename back to wmv...then it plays...whats this?

Provided you have a Windows Media Services server, can you use a source other than Windows Media Encoder for streaming? If that's the case does anyone know where I can find the specs for the types of bitstreams that are supported?

Is there a way to backup publishing points? The list and properties in Server 2003 Media Services. We had a hardware failure and lost all our publishing points. Would like to avoid this in the future.
