Just picked up an old laptop from a friend that still has 2000 Pro SP1 on it.
Can I upgrade straight to SP4, or do I have to install each SP?

because the method I ended up using allows you to keep all your installed
software and user settings even though the upgrade failed, i.e. after the
upgrade process has (successfully) finished, you cannot ...
