I did a complete wipe/fresh install of Win2K Pro, hardened it per instructions here: http://www.claymania.com/windows2000-hardening.html and got sp4, the security rollup for sp4, and ie 6. I then had to search

I have recently discovered a problem on one of my domain controllers. It is running Windows 2000, with latest service pack. Any time I try to install something requiring the Windows Installer, the Configuring Windows Installer popup comes up and just sits there.

I've downloaded several updates with Microsoft Windows Update, among other things the WMF fix. Download was okay, but they aren't installed. There's no error message displayed, it just says they can't be installed. Here are some parts of the logfile:

I inherited a setup that has 100 pc's win 2K & xp pro. 8 win 2K, and 2 win 2K3 servers. Short of using MS Update, how would you go about rolling out 100 updates (very few have been applied).

I just reinstalled w2k after a disk crash. the CD is basic w2k so I applied SP4 and then went to Windows Update to get current. Windows Update is complaining that my IE is not 5.03 (from memory) or later and I can't find any place on the MS web site to get a late-5.x
