I have a *retail* copy of Windows 2000 Pro. that I've switched

does .net version 2 replace ver 1?  i would have thought it does but
sometimes am promplted to install ver 1.1 or other even though 2.0 is
already there?

I did a complete wipe/fresh install of Win2K Pro, hardened it per
instructions here:

and got sp4, the security rollup for sp4, and ie 6.  I then had to search

I got the err " The catalog file is damaged or an invalid catalog " whenever
I run the MS Baseline security analyser ( MBSA ).

I have recently discovered a problem on one of my domain controllers.
It is running Windows 2000, with latest service pack.
Any time I try to install something requiring the Windows Installer,
the Configuring Windows Installer popup comes up and just sits there.

I have an older p3 256mhz laptop that I want to fdisk and install w2k on.
Does anyone have a tutorial on the step by step process?

I noticed a new update a few days ago, and hesitate to install it until I

other things the WMF fix. Download was okay, but they aren't installed.
There's no error message displayed, it just says they can't be installed.

I have a windows 2000 server (SP4) and I've enabled automatic updates
(to d/l and install at 5:00 AM, after the backup runs) through the
Automatic Updates in the Control Panel.
When I come in in the morning I see the icon in the tray that updates

resently i been having some sound difficaulties. It started happpening this
week, i believe it was after the new updates. now wether it is cause by the
new updates or not i dont know but it did start happening after. i have not
installed anything but the updates so i cant think of ...

I inherited a setup that has 100 pc's win 2K & xp pro.
8 win 2K, and 2 win 2K3 servers.
Short of using MS Update, how would you go about rolling out 100 updates
(very few have been applied).

I just reinstalled w2k after a disk crash.  the CD is basic w2k so I
applied SP4 and then went to Windows Update to get current.  
Windows Update is complaining that my IE is not 5.03 (from memory) or
later and I can't find any place on the MS web site to get a late-5.x
