From the Start Button invoking Windows Upgrade and
selecting Windows Service Pack 4, I get a message during
the installation that \winnt\system32\ftp.exe is open or
in use by an application.

I recently downloaded SP4 and while it was installing, my
laptop (Compaq Armada M700) closed down. It now is unable
to reboot and gets as far as the 'Windows 2000' screen and
then shuts down and reboots into a loop. It does the same
