Not sure if I have (or made) a boot disk back in 2002 when PC was new.  Best
method for getting the machine to boot?  No screen display, no GUI, no
command prompt, etc. when choosing Safe Mode.  Recovery console no help. Last
known good config no help.  On Win2K SP4 --- did ...

I am told there are about 20 - 30 specific places where a program can hide
in the registry and be automatically started up when the system boots. Can
anybody list all these places?

I have a PC with Windows 2000 Pro installed on a hard drive that is
dying. I have bought a new hard drive, and installed in in the system

I'll try to paraphrase this problem.....
Bought a cheap Gateway laptop with Vista pre-installed.  Found that Vista
was FAR too slow and decided to wipe and install win2000 with SP4 and latest

I just have a quick question:  I figured out how, in Setup, on my home
computer to have the first boot device be the DVD-ROM drive.  I put the
Win2K Pro disk in but nothing happened.  I turned off computer, and, again,
