In a computer that I rarely use, I changed the username (Admin /
Administrator ?) and passoword.  I know it is silly but I can't even
remember the new name of the admin user !!!
I can only connect as 'home' without password.

A number of our employees access our windows servers using either mapped
drives or UNC paths with vpn. I am somewhat concerned that accessing our
servers this way may pose a security risk as a number of viruses proliferate
through network shares.

The best practise for securing AD is to disable the administrator
acount. Clearly you will need in advance to have created a sufficient
number of other administrators so that you reduce the chance of
locking yourself out completely.

We are running Windows XP Pro and 2000 Pro on our computers.  I'm in the
process of learning Group Policies and how to create, manage, deploy and
troubleshoot them (AD is still on 2000 Server based)
My 2x questions are:

I encrypted a folder and copied it to another computer. Then I exported the
cert/key to the other computer. On that computer, I imported the cert/key
into the personal and trusted store for certificates. I am not able to read
the file in the folder.

I everybody.  I am trying to see the system configurations on a Windows 2000
OS that does not have a GUI, only a dos prompt.  Does anybody know a command
for this?  I also want to be able to see the last time a security patch has

I am trying to delegate a helpdesk person to manage users accounts in
Activie Directory.  This includes creating, deleting, enabling, disabling,
reset/change password etc. of non administrator accounts.  However, the

I want to put a share out that allows a set of people to write new files out
there but not allow anyone but the group owners to delete/modify.  If not
that, then allow a set of groups to upload files to but not delete, provide
read only on new files.  I know how to do it on unix, ...

I am running w2000 on my laptop.  It was part of a network at my workplace.  
The network has been shut down.  I am still being prompted by the computer to
login when I am at home.
I tried to set up a network at home between my two laptops.  I re-booted and

Will this be compatible with defender? If not, how do I disable defender?
