Hey all,
A little unsure about DNS and forwarders could you check to see if my logic
is flawed.
Win 2000 domain, 7 Dcs, 5 around the country and 2 in head office

We have 2 DNS servers a primary and a secondary running standalone on
windows 2000 server.  There is no Active Directory Involved.  We are
simply using these to provide zone records for domains for websites and
email.  A few days ago our secondary DNS server was taken offline.

This is a simple question (I hope) - I have a domain that has two DNS
servers, one Win2000 and one Win2003. The Win2K box doesn't have any
FLZ or RLZ configured on it at all. If I were to configure these zones,
would they have to match the zones on the Win2003 server? Is it even

I work with someone who has a DHCP service and a DNS service running on
the same server.  Recently they had to reset their router and they did
not turn DHCP off on the router.  After I changed this, it looks like
DHCP is not updating their local network, like a local computer has an

When I'm on my business network and VPN into my dedicated webserver
which resides physically at and on part of my ISP's network, I can't
surf or use the web..as though no DNS.

When I give ipconfig/registerdns after ipconfig/flushdns, it gives me error
that The system cannnot find the file specified.
And on client side nslookup is not working. What and where is wrong?

I have a WIN2K Server which is apparently working (if a create a new
Zone it will risolve), but if I type a query for an external domain it
will anwer:

I've inherited a DNS/AD issue in an existing domain.  I'm getting DNS
4011 errors in the DNS Event log on the AD GC Server.  This unit runs
all FSMO Roles, DNS, DHCP, and Global Catalog server.  We rebooted last
weekend  post patch delployment, and both our exchange servers lost

We are trying to get to a web site that we cannot get to with one DNS
forwarder but we can if we use the 2nd DNS forwarder.  Is there a way to tell
DNS to use the 2nd DNS forwarder only if we are trying to get to that one
specific web site ? Is there a better way of doing this ?

We are running DNS for a few hundred domains. We have currently changed
our ISP, and I need to change the master on all the secondary DNS
servers. However, after doing this manually on EVERY SINGLE zone on the
first server, I'd rather not do it that way again. Is there any way to

in our datacenter we changed out  our primary and secondary dns server.
these servers resolves dns queries for different services we offer. our isp
is forwarding all requests regarding  our name-space to these new dns

I have an issue with MS DNS.
We have 3 subnet A=192.168.1.0, B=192.168.2.0, C=192.168.3.0
Subnet A and B have DC's .5 in each.
The resolution of the domain name foo.com points to the 2 dc's
