How can one override a recursive lookup for a domain not hosted on a
Microsoft DNS Server?
The scenario is a local network with a Microsoft DNS Server running both as
an authoritative server for some local domains and as a DNS solver for all

Currently, I have a single Windows 2000 Advanced Server running DNS and
DHCP for my corporate domain.
I'm going to replace that with 2 Windows 2003 Enterprise Servers.
DNS1 will be my primary DNS/DHCP server.

Can I create a DNS ALIAS entry for a page within a site?  Is there any IIS
configiration?

I have recently done some external DNS changes via Network Solutions.  I am
having problems when people connect to the VPN.  They cannot connect to
local resources via FQDN.  When I do a nslookup on the working computers the
first server fails with something like:

Is it possible for me to append my current internal intranet DNS entry with
an 8080 port number?  I'm moving my intranet to a new IIS box which is
already hosting a site on port 80 and so need to specify this alternate 8080
port in my DNS pointer.

I am a consultant with a client who has DNS setup a zone setup
internally with the same name as the public DNS, thecomapanyname.com.
The DNS server is on a Windows 2003 server Integrated with AD.  This

I'm having problems with name resolution.
Scenario:
1 - Site1 -> Tree Root Domain (domain.root) -> 4 Domain Controllers all with

My company is planning to change our domain name.
What has to be done?  We have about 5 Exchange & 2 DNS consisting of
2003 Servers.  Also we have about 100 other servers mostly as member

My cient was hosting their website locally.  The name of the site and
the name of their domain is one and the same.  THey moved the site to
a hosting company.  When we try to access the site by typing the
complete address http://www.xyz.com it made it there in the morning

I just added a second DNS server to the network (both Win2k servers).
Before I installed DNS on the secondary, I had the option checked to "allow
zone transfers" and everything came up fine on the secondary.
I guess I can assume that it's ready to go. I've looked through some

server not a dc, i would like to move this role to another server (not the

I have a local DSL provider whom I use for my e-mail & web surfing. I
currently have a "dynamic" IP address from my ISP.  I am using a
LinkSys WRT54G Router for my wi-fi laptop.  I also want to setup a Win
2003 server w/IIS 6.0 I would like host a couple of web sites on this
