Since I'm replacing the old DC, I want to start (& continue) things right with my new Win2k3 server. I believe I've got my public DNS servers situated, as the only error messages I get from www.dnsreport.com are not applicable in my case (mail records, etc.).

I have two subnets connected by two routers. frequently, when I browse for all computers I only see the distant subnet, and not the local subnet. then, the local subnet will appear at random intervals.

I have some troubles with private root servers in our network, then I want to turn on logging of DNS actions. Can you recomend me some web with this problematics? I thing which logging options I should turn on, how I can read log file, etc....

I am aware that the DNS data lives into the Active DIrectory. If so, does the DNS records get replicated to other DC's via FRS ? I am wondering how that would be handled given replication time in AD may vary in my organization. It may take up to an hour to replicate from site to

I have a utility where for some reason it cannot connect to a domain controller with the pre w2k domain name without it being in the HOSTS file. I don't want to have to manage a bunch of HOSTS files on the PCs that have the utility so I was wondering if it is OK to put MYDOMAIN ...
