I have a similar issue,
This is the error i'm getting in my smsprov.log

Hi,
I have a setup of SMS 2003 Sp2, everything was fine before, but all of a
sudden I started getting few critical errors in "SMS Distribution Manager" to
check the services when I try accessing SMS service manager it is gives
"Error communicating with the specified SMS Site Server".
Someone please help me in this.
