and when I install Windows Defender, it says that the service failed to
start. the logon I'm using is a domain admin and this PC has joined the

Peer to Peer (no server software) Lan with password logon enabled,
Client for MS Networks and File & Print Sharing, all nodes are in the
same named Workgroup,  running a NAT firewall enabled Linksys router

MSE seems to start the Resident Shield too late so that 'MS Security Center'
always pops up a warning: Your computer is at risk, MSE has not started" or
words to that effect. This on at least 3 clean computers.
Has anyone else noticed this?

Running WinXP Professional with SP 3. This is a Think Pad Laptop.
All Microsoft software passes validation.

I have not received a reply from the Microsoft secure email alias yet (only

I deployed .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 (NetFx20SP2_x86.exe signed 2008-07-29)

Now the error number has changed:
keep getting error "0x80070643" when I attempt to install Microsoft
Security Essentials.

I successfully ran MBSA 2.1.1 in Jan 09 on a number of servers which are not
connected to the internet.  I went to run it again today and all looked fine
until the results page displayed and it showed that the security catalog
could not be opened.

I installed MBSA 2.1.1 on Windows Server 2003 Standard with 1 GB RAM
installed.  I also installed WindowsUpdateAgent 3.0.
When I try to scan I always get the following error:
An error occurred while scanning for security updates. (0x800700005)

Does anyone know which command line switches to use for "offline scanning"
Currently I can perform offline scans and get offline scanning to work with
the GUI, by setting advance update section, and microsoft update, but I can
not find the command line switches to be able to ...

It is claiming the SP for NET 3.5 is missing on these machines.

I have problem with MBSA offline scanning for MS security updates. Problem
has started with new version of “wsusscn2.cab” file.
Up until now, everything working fine, with older version of “wsusscn2.cab”.

I face the following issue:
After installing the MBSA 2.1.1 I tried to check all computers within our

Scanning the XP machines was successful, but by scanning the Windows 7

When I run MBSA 2.1 it gives me
