I have tried 3 times to install service pack 2 on windows stand alone server.
It gets 3/4 the way through and says it could not complete the install. I had
service pack 2 installed previously and uninstalled it. I get no real error
messages and now my add remove program window is all screwed up with invalid
entries. Event viewer shows no messages that can shed any light on the issue.
Can anyone please help me to get service pack 2 reinstalled? My e-mail

I would honestly re-run the WIndows setup as an upgrade. Put the CD in, say
no to the first upgrade question, but then say yes to the second question.
This will be an upgrade and not a reinstall. It will perserve your current
apps and personal settings. Afterwards I would re-run SP2. If you are not
sure how to do this and need the data on the server, I would highly suggest
to higher a competent consultant who is aware of how to do this.

I just tried to run the install from the i386 directory and it wouldent let
me it said my current version was newer than the original versoin and if I
continued with the install all my settings will be lost. That is
unacceptable. Any other ideas? Can I copy the i386 directory to a cd and run
setup from there or will I encounter the same problem? I have a lot of
company wide important data that the business cannot afford to lose.

I would refer to these articles which still apply to service pack 2
and server. Basically you need to identify in the svcpack.log what
the last operation or error was. You may need to enable verbose
logging to capture possible security issues with the registry. This
may simply be an issue where your server has security to restrictive
for the system to update. Please attach the bottom of svpack.log to
thread.
You receive an "Access is denied" error message when you try to
install Windows XP Service Pack 2 or Windows Server 2003 Service Pack

Don't run it from a directory. It MUST be run from a bootable Windows 2003
installation CD. You will get the option to 'repair' when it boots. Do not
choose the first repair option, but choose the second repair option. The
second repair option is the upgrade.
Actually I would first look into what errors you are getting with the help
Daveg's post on how to do that. it will save you the headaches of running
Windows setup.
