Howdy,

I'm at the end of my wits. After installing Service pack 2,  I cannot
add  computer accounts to the DC.

I cannot add computers from VMware running local, nor can I add them
from the network.

I can ping by server name and also by FQDN.

Below is the Output from Netsetup.Log

Is this an edited log file?

>05/15 16:31:40 NetpValidateName: 'mydomain.local' is not a valid
>NetBIOS domain name: 0x7b

This indicates there is a problem with the netbios name ( or it thinks there
is).

Thanks KJ ...

The log file has been indeed been edited by replacing
"CompanyToRemainNameless" with "mydomain", but that doesn't effect the
NetBios name resolution, as NetBios names cannot contain periods and I
was using the FQDN.

In  my understanding, you can add systems to the Domain using either
the Domain's FQDN or its NetBios Name, so in either case you will get
an error checking for the other.

In my previous post I failed to mention that the systems that I have
tried to add to the domain have included 2K_Pro (SP4), 2K_Server
(Fully Patched), and XP Pro (Fully Patched); and that I pre-staged
them on the DC.

Okay,

Here's the solution as outlined in MS KB article 936594.

- Install Updated NIC Drivers
- Disable Receive Side Scaling
- Disable Offload Support

You might also notice that SP2 removed the "Help and Support" service.

You can find the resolution within MS KB article 555912

Cheers,
