Hello All,
I have a public environment and I am experiencing users being able to change
the desktop wallpaper although I have a GPO set to restrict this action. Has
anyone else encountered this problem? I am getting the Mozilla firefox image
(stretched) often on my desktops. I am wondering how the users are
circumventing the GPOs in order to make chages or is it getting modified via
some script. Any insight would be much appreciated.
TIA,
Altria

I've seen this happening where users were able to right-click an image
in a webbrowser and choose "set as wallpaper". This worked regardless of
the GPO.

Hello Dajo,
Thanks for your reply.....
Your answer led me to look deeper into this issue. The right click (to set
as background) is actually disabled in IE as well as Explorer but users are
still able to save files in a public folder. Once they save the images there
they can open the viewer directly in Microsoft Picture and Fax viewer. Now
at this point they are able to set image as background. Therefore, I now
have two options, disable MS fax/pic viewer or find  way to change the
default picture editor (ie Paint.).
I am hoping I can gather some expertise here!!!
Also i hope this helps other people who may be plagued with this issue!!
TIA,
Altria
thanks again dajo!!

At my old college they used a policy setting that disabled the windows
desktop wallpaper altogether; ill look into it asap, see if i can dig
anything up.

OK i found this; its an edited reg file with details that should sort it!
hope so anyway :) These settings were working on XP with no SP, SP1 and SP2
and will probably work with win2000 machines too.
-----------------------------------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Active
Desktop]
"NoChangingWallPaper"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
]
"NoDispBackgroundPage"=dword:00000001
"NoDispSettingsPage"=dword:00000001
"WallpaperStyle"="0"

------------------------------------------------------------
The NoDisp Parts disable the specific tabs on the desktop properites menu

Hope this helps,
Darren.
