Hi.

I am fairly new to WINDOWS2003 AD and DNS.
I think I have set up my DNS correctly but when clients go to our
Library site certain links there are using a proxy switch and my DNS
server  does not recognize it...example

link is  http://0-search.epnet.com.sally.sandiego.edu/login.asp?

the 0- is a port 80 switch that tells sally to go to search.epnet.com.

Any ideas what I need to do? Do I need to set up a proxy server?

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I think a redirect (possibly using asp?) in a web page may be the better
choice. DNS doesn't handle any proxy redirects or anything of the sort, but
rather just resolves domain names to IP addresses. You can't direct based on
ports in DNS either, unless the application is SRV aware (such as Actice
Directory). Microsoft was working on an HTTP SRV implementation, but due to
the numerous security issues that are plaguing the industry, this has been
put on hold.
