Hi all. The dc in my company has crashed and most probably can't be
recovered. When i try to remove domain controller role from another
server(member server with crashed dc), i was prompted "a domain controller
could not be contacted for the domain abc.com that contain an account for
this computer". I was prompted to make the computer a member of the workgroup
to resolve the issue. However i could not join the server to a workgroup as
the "change" button under computer name tab of system properties is disabled.
Moreover during the removal process even if i select this is the last dc in
the network option, i would be prompted that it is not. How can i solve this?

Hi

Are you logged in with "local " admin account ( as I am assuming there is no
other DC to authenticate your creds, are you  logging in with cached profile?)
- the only time I have seen that section greyed out is when user doesnt have
rights to change it

Also if you could clarify this statement....."When i try to remove domain
controller role from another
>server(member server with crashed dc), "

how many DC's do you have? some info on your infrastructure would help...

Regards

S
