.....printing is faster for an administrator account than a user
account.
here's the setup.
windows 2000 server with win2k workstations.
server at corp HQ two branches coming in VPN tunnels over broadband.
from a branch office, i login in to the server using remote desktop
and using my administrator account. ( taking a local printer with me.)
when i print a test page to the local printer, from within my remote
session, test page prints in 15 seconds.
when i login as a simple user, (not administrator on the local or
server level), that test page print job takes more than two minutes to
show up.
why is that?

I have not the faintest idea, but there are a couple of things you
can check to narrow down the problem:
1) it is possible that the problem is not permission-related at
all, but that it just happens to be the normal user account that
has a problem. Try with another normal user account, or delete the
users account, so that you start with a fresh default account, or
give the test user a copy of your administrators profile.
2) give the test user (temporarily) Administrator rights. Does the
file print fast now?
3) if 1) and 2) show that the problem is permission related. I
would download FileMon and RegMon from
http://www.sysinternals.com/. Run them as administrator on the TS,
start a TS session as a normal user and print your testfile.
FileMon and RegMon will show you all "access denied" errors
that occur, so that you can give your users the necessary
permissions on a file-to file or Registry subkey basis.
