Excel97: hangs when changing colours

Have a NT 4.0 network with Office 97.
When i try to change colour in in a table in excel, the
system can use up to an hour to finish, or totally hang.
If I change a value, or anything except changing colour,
it works ok.
Have tried to reinstall excel, but that didn't help.

Have anyone some idea ????

additional info : It isn't the system but the client that
hangs when changing colour. This problem has come and gone
a few times. It was "resolved" whith overwriting
pagefile.sys and reinstalling excel.
(NT is 4.0 SP 5 on Term server)
