I have Windows NT on my Compag Armada 7800 laptop.  I
want to convert to Windows 98?  Can I do it or would I
ruin the labtop?

Thanks

To wipe the drive, some ways include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk
and delete all partition information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or
boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point,
delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the
install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed you can boot the Win98
CD-Rom or restore CD-Rom to start your install. Make sure you have win9x
device drivers available before hand.

If it's formatted FAT, you can probably install Win98 as is. If it's
formatted NTFS, you will need to delete the partition and install Win98
from scratch. This will lose ALL of your data.

I have just purchased a Compaq Armada E700 that came with Windows 98se, an
OS that I find to be really unstable. But my desktop runs NT4.0 workstation.
I intend to upgrade to Windows 2000 so I can keep NT's stability and yet
have the flashier features of Window 9x.

You would have to format and reinstall 98
