on a lan type connection network and now I cannot login to
this computer at all.  How can I by-pass the login, to
change the network connection to LAN again.  Right now at
the login prompt I see no domain field, and the computer
itself is not appearing as a station in the network window
on any other station or server.

Thanks

Is this Windows NT or 2000+?

You'll have to log on with a local account, such as the local administrator
account.  Whoever installed the OS had to specify a password for that
account and should know it.  That person may have left it blank.

You say changed to a dialup type.  To get the obvious out the way first, on
the logon screen there is a tick box saying (on windows 2000) 'Log on using
dial-up connection'.  On NT4 it is similar.  Is this unticked?

If you are running Windows 2000 there is a button on the logon screen marked
Options.  Click this and see if your domain reappars
