Hello,
I am trying to install a Windows NT Server 4.0 on K8V-MX Asus
motherboard with a sata drive. I am usings the manufacturer floppy
disk for the drivers. I have previously installed xp on this machine
using this floppy without any problems. However, now that I'm trying
to install NT Server everytime i get to the screen to load the drivers
it loads them fine (drivers from the floppy for windows nt 4.0 via
sata raid of course) and I enter to proceed to the next screen it puts
out the message that windows nt cannot find any hard disks.
There is a linux installation on this disk currently if that matters.
I would like to format the disk via nt setup once I'm able to proceed
so it erases linux.
Please any info or directions is appreciated,
Thanks

dont know if any of this applies to your issue.
I toasted the OS on my server while trying to add the 'quick launch' toolbar
after installing ie 5 then 6. (tried several options then went for the "dont
try this unless all else fails" instructions)
system info
dell d300
1 - 4 gig and 1- 120 gig standard hard drives
nt 4.0 sp 6
so
I just rebuild my nt server last night.
things that I ran/run into.
1) the install of NT 4.0 from the base CD ( service pack < 3)
does not install on to drives > 2 gig ( it does but wont boot to finish the
install).
so I have to partition my 4 gig drive into 2 - 2 gig partitions.
2) Also the 120 gig drive on this server showed up but it would not
function/display the drive contents until I install SP 6 then it opened and
all my data was there. (sp 3 or 4 does not seem to reconize the drive, did
not have sp 5 but sp 6 worked)
3) I put very little on the C drive in case I hose the OS. ( I play alot
with my systems which end in a rebuild, ( thank God for test servers.)
4) if you want the 'quick launch' toolbar, load ie 4 and use full/custom and
answer yes to "make the desktop look like this") correct it later to remove
the channel , chat and other options you dont want, much easier than try to
install ie4 with the standard or "pick and choose" option and find the quick
launch did not install. ( you then you can upgrade to ie 5 or 6)
5) if you want IIS 4 ( IIS 3 is standard for NT and does not come on the
SPs) - install from nt4 option pack.( dont think ie 5 or 6 affects the
install) MS still has the modules on a web site but they are not one download
but about 50 .
this is the link to the option pack download site.

( I burned them to a cd and installed for there)
