I am attempting to install NT Server 4.0 on an IBM xSeries 206 server
with 3.06 GHz Pentium 4, 512Mb memory and 2 x 80 Gb SATA drives. These
are setup as one logical drive using the built-in IBM SATA Raid
controller (Raid 1).
On installing the NT Server OS, just after the CD-Rom File System is
installed it stops, with a black screen with vertical lines of graphics
characters. I have tried the F6 on startup and
selected the normal IDE CD driver but am not yet able to source the
SATA Raid drivers. IBM's pdf documentation states that the NT 4.0
floppy disk image file is aac-winnt.img but this is not on the
ServeRaid 7e Support CD and cannot be found on a search of the IBM
Support site. Even so, continuing without these drivers still gives the
same results.
I have successfully used the IBM ServerGuide CD to install Windows 2000
Server onto a 2Gb FAT32 partition, created during the unattended
install. The ServerGuide CD however only allows automated installation
of Windows Server 2000 and 2003, there is no option for NT.
Can anyone help with the installation problem or point me towards a
ServerGuide CD that includes NT as an option.

so no floppy drive?
one possibility:
reformat the drive, I think the max system drive size during install is 8GB
or less depending on SP on the CD
if no service but plain NT4, max is only 6GB
create a small partition of about 2GB to 6 , install NT on that, install
storage SP to 5 if that adequate, install storage device driver
Then partition and reformat the rest of the drive for whatever you want or
try use disk utility to extend the install system partition.
Good luck
