If you want to install NT, you should to repartition your disk during NT
setup.
But there is one thing you should to think about - Windows NT is, in
general, more stable and secure OS than Win ME, but it is also much older OS
and it is not supporting "new" technologies. Win NT is not designed to be
run on laptops, it is not supporting plug and play, USB and hot plug
technologies important for normal laptop usage (even there are notebook
producers offering NT OS as option, it was always with special OEM drivers).
It is possible to install retail version of NT to notebook, but you have
really small chance to get correct drivers for display and for hot plug
laptop devices. I saw such installed notebooks in post and such installation
was always real pain. It is possible to find good third party USB drivers
for NT, but chance to get correct NT drivers for special laptop devices is
really low. Look on laptop producer web to find more about possibility to
install NT on this particular laptop.
