Turn Off ACPI During Text Mode Set Up

Hi, guys!

I just had my PC upgraded to Win2000 from Win98SE.  The problem is I
received a blue screen telling me that my machine is not fully ACPI compliant
and that I have to contact my vendor manufacturer for my BIOS to have my
drivers upgraded too.  I already sent them an email since 3 weeks ago and
they have not responded until now.  Now, the blue screen says if I don't have
a BIOS upgrade, I can turn off ACPI mode by pressing F7 key during text mode
set up.  My question is, what is text mode set up and how would I know that I
am in a text mode set up? Please help me. Thank you very much!

Also try the bios manufacturer's web site. Text mode portion of setup is the
first phase of the install where you partition, format and copy files to the
new partition as opposed to gui mode portion which is after the file copy
and first reboot. You can press F7 select the particular Hardware
Abstraction Layer (HAL) to install.

Be advised that upgrades from win9x almost always fail for any number of
reasons. Save yourself some time and trouble, given that you'll more than
likely end up with an unstable OS with all the remnants/ corruption left
behind from the upgrade. Best to blow it all away and go for the clean
install.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks.
The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom; change
to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos)
or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

During Windows 2000 setup, at some point, will want to confirm the previous
operating system for the upgrade; at that point you'll simply insert the
qualified product install CD for it to verify. Then the install will
proceed.

Check the pc, mb or hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest bios and
or Windows 2000 drivers for your devices.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Hi, Dave! Thanks for the prompt reply. Yours is the second advise I received
telling me to start from clean install.  What I was having on my second
thoughts of doing so is the time and effort i spent downloading and
installing all the service packs.  Truth is there were nights I didn't sleep
just to see the service packs installed. I'm using a dial up so disconnection
is almost 90 percent. But now, I think, I have to start again just to ensure
my OS stability.  Again, thank you very, very much! At least, I'm enlightened
now :)

Service packs are cumulative so you only need to install the latest one +
rollup.
