I have have installed a Samsung Syncmaster 710 v on to a compaq deskpro en
series which is set up with windows nt 4.0. after turning the comp on the
display went back to standard graphics mode. i have tried to re install the
ATI pro rage graphics adapter but the display stays in standard graphics
mode. I have put the old monitor back on and the graphics card is
recognised. The disk that came with the monitor does not recognise windows
nt 4

i am missing a trick or is there something obvious i am missing

thanks

Windows NT4 cares nothing about the monitor and cannot see past the graphics
adapter.

Windows NT itself cannot, but Video card can.

Question - is it real standard VGA mode (because your ATI driver failed to
load) or it is VGA mode produced by Your ATI card (probably because it is
set to use only modes available for current monitor and it is not able to
recognize new one)?

Did you tried to get latest RagePro NT driver from ATI web? It is possible
your original driver was modified by Compaq to fit better to Compaq
proprietary design.
