I have windows NT 4.00 on the machine that I'm using and,
for the particular internet use I want, I'm told that I
need to have NT 5.00 or higher.  How do I upgrade to
that ?  Is there a free download at the microsoft
website?  I've been there but I'm a clutz when it comes to
this kind of stuff, and didn't see what to do.  Can anyone
help ?   Thanks !

NT5 = Windows 2000. Are you sure you don't mean IE5?

Thanks Patrick.  What's IE5?  And If NT 5.00 = Windows
2000, can I download that from the website free and if so
where precisely ?  Thanks again .

* No, you have to buy it. It is an operating system.

Thanks Dave -

1) I have IE5 on the computer now. Is is necessary to
upgrade at this time to IE6?

2) My main desire is to upgrade from the current operating
system (NT 4.0) to NT 5.0   You've said that NT 5.0 =
Windows 2000.   Am I correct, then, in understanding that
there is not an (free) "upgrade" from NT 4.0 to NT 5.0
and therefore I must buy Windows 2000 in order to
effectively have what others are calling "NT 5.0" on my
computer.  Is this correct ?

Thanks in advance for clarifying this for me.

* No it's purely your option here. Depending on the specific version it may
no longer be supported. What this means is no more security updates.

IE5 = Internet Explorer 5. You can (and should) download IE6SP1 (6 Service
Pack 1) from http://www.microsoft/com/downloads. I would also recommend
visiting http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com to ensure you have the latest NT
& IE security patches.

Windows 2000 is a whole new operating system which you would need to
purchase, its not available for free or for download.
