After installing NT, I am unable to get any Service Packs. I have
downloaded SP6, but can install with out updating my Browser. I
downloaded IE 6.0 and cant to it without updating to Newest SP. So I
download IE 4.01 and it wont install either. Does anyone know the
right way to update NT?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly you need at least Sp3 to install a higher version of
IE before you can install Sp6.

It has been some time but the final method we had
developed for setting up Windows NT was (a) update
to SP4-IE4 immediately after clean install (for Y2K
and fulfil requirement for AGP video) and followed
by (b) IE5, IE5.5 or IE 6.0 and SP6a (or was it the
other way around, SP6a and then IE5/5.5/6?).

I'm having the same issue since doing a clean install.  Can't find the
cummulative updates and catch 22.  Can't load IE without SP6a and can't load
SP6a without IE 3.0 or above.  Spent tons of money on several NT 4.0 OS and
Microsoft has deserted us.

Hi,

You don't need IE AT ALL to update a Win NT4.0 System.

The problem is you are trying to use the 'pull update from the Micorosft site'
process. I NEVER use this, the same as I NEVER use Windows Update. Frankly, it
is more trouble than it is worth.

To get SP6a, follow this link:
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/128bitX86/default.asp

(caution long link may wrap) then click the 'Start SP6a Network Download'
button.  This file you receive is a FULL STANDALONE download that can be applied
to ANY NT4.0 machine, even if it has no network connection at all.

Hope this info helps.

Calvin.
