I've just finished rebuilding a member server with NT 40.
I've jioned the domain and am able to map to the other
machines on the network. However, when I try to map to
the member server I just rebuilt, I get prompted for a
username and password... no matter what I use I cannot
connect. I've tried the local administrator combination
and the network administrator combination. Has anyone run
into this before?

Is this machine on a different subnet or anything? Confirm that the Domain
Users group is within the Local Users group on this machine and that the
Domain Administrators group is withint the Local Administrators group of
this machine. Sounds like the joining of the domain had some problems are
did not complete sucessfully. You could also try to go back to a workgroup
and rejoin but make sure your local Administrator account works on this
machine before doing this or you'll be completely locked out.
