I am trying to reinstall Windows NT Workstation 4.0 on a
Pentium II computer to use as secondary machine and to
support and old serial HP scanner.  I successfully
installed NT can't get my Office 97, the scanner software
or other items to install.

The messages I typically get is that I need to add
service packs. I downloaded service pack 3.0 y2kfix2i
from the MS site but got another rejection, saying I
needed to put on intermediate service packs.  Service
Pack 6(sp6patch_i386) didn't work either.I have not been
able to locate these lower numbered service packs (1.0 ?
2.0? )on the MS download site.

Could anyone suggest how I go about locating these and
any sequence to installation I should be aware of?

Thanks!

You only need to install Service Pack 6a.
If you recieve an error indicating that you require the
High Encryption version, you must download it separately.
If you get an error message indicating that you must
upgrade Internet Explorer (or use 3.0 or greater) then
download the Network Installation version of Service Pack 6
from
http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/allSP6.asp

NOTE: You must reapply Service Pack 6a if you copy any
components from the Windows NT CD-ROM at a later date!

Thanks for the help!  It turned out I needed the Network
Installation Version.  I was able to get NT to accept
Office 97 and have it loaded and customized.  Lots of
incremental learning going on here.  Much appreciated!
