I have 3 NT4 servers, 1 local PDC and the 2 BDC's at 2
remote sites.  I now want to install a 4th server with
Windows Server 2003(Std). This will be my new PDC. The
BDC's at the remote sites cannot be upgraded due to old
hardware.  How can get the most out of the new
installation of Windows Server 2003.  I would like to
install Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and WINS etc. on the
new server and keep the remote NT4 server as BDCs.  Is
this possible?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Another approach is to install an NT 4.0 BDC on your 4th server, take the
PDC offline for insurance, and promote the new BDC to PDC.  Now you have
your new box as the NT4 PDC.  Next, upgrade this PDC to Server 2003, install
AD, DNS, DHCP, WINS, etc.  The existing BDCs will continue to see your new
Server 2003 DC as the PDC and will function perfectly.  Be sure to check out
the Server 2003 deployment guide on upgrading NT 4.0 domain controllers
first.
