Iam trying to reinstall workstaion 4.0 sp6 on a stand
alone network. My problem is that my operating system
will not recognize the network adaptor in the slot. It's
a linksys adaptor 100tx v4.1. It has allowed me to
install all but two of the files needed for the adaptor
to work. one is a .hlp and the other is .sys. My network
is not operational until this adaptor can be recognized.
How do I get this operating system to see the new
hardware.

I would skip the driver install and do it after you have the machine
opertaing system installed. Your particular NIC card may require a service
pack before it is operational or you may not be using the correct NT4
drivers. NT is extremely picky about drivers and you MUST have the exact one
for it to work.
