i'll try to make this short, but it's an ongoing problem that needs some
explanation.  apologies in advance.  several months back my winnt 4.0 server
(sp6a) running ms dns began to intermittently stop resolving the msn/hotmail
site.  no other sites, either locally-hosted or out on the net ever give this
problem.  stopping and restarting dns services sometimes resolves the issue,
sometimes reboot is necessary.  admittedly, my previous (five-year-old)
dns/web server was a bit underpowered, so i built a new one (2.0GHz, 2GB RAM)
and did a clean install of everything.  Same problem on the new
server...msn/hotmail sites intermittently won't resolve.
my gut feeling is that it may be related to the dynamic content on the msn
and hotmail pages not being cached.  any body else seen this and, better yet,
resolved it without os upgrade?

You are saying that your DNS server won't return any records from those
domains at all?
Try this KB:

Thanks, Kevin.  So far, adding the SecureResponse registry DWORD value has
done the trick.  I was having to reboot daily because the MSN/Hotmail sites
would stop resolving.  Since the registry key addition, it has been four days
without the need for a reboot.  If it's still doing fine after a few more
days have passed, I'll go ahead and exhale.
Thanks again.
