Hello.

I seem to be having problems that are related to the DNS
server, but I can find no reason for the problem in our
event log other than this:
****
Event Type:    Error
Event Source:    Dns
Event Category:    None
Event ID:    5108
Date:        10/1/2004
Time:        7:37:06 PM
User:        N/A
Computer:    xyz123
Description:
DNS Server created CNAME loop loading CNAME at
resalehost.networksolutions.com.. One link in CNAME
loop:  DNS name resalehost.networksolutions.com. is alias
for CNAME resalehost.networksolutions.com.. See adjoining
messages for other links in CNAME loop.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

When we come into work in the morning nobody can access
the internet.  Rebooting the DNS server fixes the issue.
Yet I can find nothing wrong with the DNS server other
than the message above.  I've also seen other posts with
the same error message by other people and I've seen
recent posts about people 'all of the sudden' losing
internet connectivity within the past week or so.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

First, fix the CNAME loop.  Why would you even have a CNAME for that
host?  It already exists in Network Solutions' DNS as is.

Next you'll need to define "nobody can access the internet" since that
isn't by nature a DNS issue.  If you have name resolution errors track
them down.

Why would I have that?  I don't!  :-)  Which is why I
posted my request for help.

However, I will tell you that the reason our web surfing
and outbound internet e-mail has been intermittent is
because someone brought their personal laptop computer
from home and plugged it into our network.  Now that it
is unplugged we're fine.

Bill,  did you ever find an actual resolution for this?
I'm experiencing it too. I'm also seeing it on the
following sites/hosts:
ip209.equaprofit.com
xx.186.150.66.in-addr.arpa  xx=46,12,19,139,70,44,52,10,11

I'm only caching entries from my ISP's DNS so am I correct
in thinking that I'm getting this bad data from them?

I've found an article xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/4635 that
describes the problem, but gives a limited description of
a resolution. Anyone have more detailed solution?
