I am on Win XP.  So why does the system keep shutting
down after I get the message: "Initiated by NT
Authority\system?"

Hi Glenn,

This is a symptom of the Blaster Worm. Follow the instructions from this
page:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.asp

Thanks,

You have contracted the LOVSAN virus. Refer to Microsoft
advisory or press CTRL-ALT-DEL and end process of
MSBLAST.EXE then remove virus. SYMANTEC has a neat
removal tool.
