Microsoft virtual machine

Hope someone can help.....

I have no Java capabilities on my computer at the moment
(not sure why they weren't installed from the start). I
keep getting a window stating I need to download the
Microsoft Virtual Machine. However, the original NT
workstation CD doesn't want to play. Should the package be
on the CD or can I download it from Microsoft.com?
