I have an excel template (.xlt) file on a machince running
Windows 2000.  When this file is double-clicked a
spreadsheet is opened with a 1 appended to the name, so as
not to make changes to the original template.  The same
thing occurs when accessing the file through a command
line.  Under Windows NT 4 when the file is doubl-clicked
the same thing happens, which is the desired result.
However, when a command line is used under Windows NT 4
the original file is opened for editing.  Does anyone know
how to fix this so it behaves in the default way, like the
previous situations?

What is the command line you're using?

Hi Dave,

On the command line (while being in the directory where
the file is) I just have:

testtemplate.xlt

This command works fine under Windows 2000, but not
Windows NT Server 4.  Any suggestions?

Try;

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Excel.exe" /e
"C:\Data\Excel\testtemplate.xlt"

(watch for line wrap)
