Hi, I need advice on setting up a server with Windows server 2003,
Windows Media Services 9, and the Digital Rights Manager (DRM).

This machine will server video files on our campus.  I need to be able
to server files with permissions on who can access them.

I know I need the 2003 Server (Advanced?  Standard?), the Windows
Media Services 9, and the Digital Rights Manager (DRM).

Is there anything else I need from Microsoft?  Which pieces of
software do I need to pay for?  I think the encoding software is free.

Also, does anyone have any ideas about the recommended hardware for
this server?  Someone suggested two network cards for load balancing.

Thanks so much!

Hi!

sorry im not that helpful in the other questions however in the hardware side i can help - i hope you find me useful:

2 nics? well not really but i kinda understand where he is coming from - 1 10/100 NIC will do fine.

as for the server hardware:

a Pentium 4 fast CPU
an Intel Chipset motherboard (watch out for the new 915 chipset)
and a good harddrive too - preferably Western Digital HDD's - they are fast and very reliable.
you'd need a min of 1GB of RAM - depending on the load on the server

really this is what you need to look out for a streaming media centre

any more questions? dont hesitate to ask :)

Take care, take it easy!
