Is it possible to have all three servers running simultaneously on the same server? I have given my server 5 IP addresses and I have binded Real Server to one of them. I am trying to figure out how to bind WMS to one of the other IPs so both servers can run at the same time and not interfere. Am I correct or wrong? Please help. I need to know If I need to build 2 other boxes. Thank you in advance, ~Scott   scott(at)inetstream.tv

Yes, we have real server, wms server and IIS server in ONE box using 3
different IP addresses.

Could you please tell me how you got it to work. I am able to install the real server and bind it but when I go to WMS it will not allow the RTSP/MMS protocals to work?

Could you post your ideas in the forum and email me as well at   scott_media_help(at)avh.ne

Thank you
~Scott

Scott,
I had this problem, and contacted real support this is a
summary of what I can remember from working on this about 6
months ago, so take it with some salt...

If your using Helix 9.x it won't ever happen. Helix 10 is
suppose to work, but since I quit paying my support/upgrade
fee they won't let me check. :)

It has to do with the way MS grabs an IP and the way Real
grabs an IP. But I'm light on the details. Under 2000 you
can get them to coexist fairly easily. Helix 9.x isn't
certifed to run on 2003 and this is just one example of why.

Hope that helps,

We did this for a client for an all-in-one box solution last summer.
BTW, it was old real server (not helix 9) , WMS 4.1, and IIS 5.

Let me check how it was done and get back to you.

What about running WMS and Darwin on the same Win 2003 Server

Any ideas on that? I haven't tried it yet. I haven't found in the Darwin documentation on how to bind it to an IP.

Sorry, I am a little new to this..

Thanks for all your help

Save your upgrade costs. We terminated our Real support contract when we
figured out how to solve the problem.

all you need to do is set the Helix service to be dependant on the WMS
service, so that WMS has port 1755 taken on the desired IP before Helix gets
to grab it on all remaining IPs. Since you can't tell Helix not to do that,
even if it's IP restricted, you just make sure Helix comes up last to the
party. That's a minor registry edit for the Helix service, and you'll be
doing just fine ever after, with all the ports available to WMS on the
desired IP(s)

After this little tweak, Helix 9 has been working bulletproof for over 6
months on two heavy use systems here, all co-hosting WMS, Quicktime Darwin
5, and Helix on the same hardware.

I have several servers doing just that.

Key issue: you need to make sure the REAL server service is made dependent
on the WMS service at startup, otherwise it will grab all the port 1755's
available on all IP#s, even those you don't want it to use!

If you also have an http server on the box like we have, you need to make
sure that only the desired web server IP number is listed in the
httplistener thingy - you'll find more info on that in the WMS
documentation.

Caution with the perl version you need to install for the Quicktime server -
it must be a very recent version to be 2003 compatible.
