Has somebody here successfully set up a multimedia
streaming ?
Whenever I try to start a publishing point for a
multicasting stream, I receive an error message stating
that the Media server (latest Win 2003 Media server) is
not a multicasting compatible mediaserver, which is
absolutely ridiculous.
What can be the reason ?
Any idea ?
Thank you very much in advance for a hint.
Answers, please, to my email address.

I think your eitire network has to be multicast compatible
or else the operation will bomb. In other words, you can
only do this within a closed intranet and not the public
internet where various kinds of non-compatible routers
handle the packets.

The whole network is multicasting capable - other
multicasting applications work fine.
And, in fact, it is on an intranet.

Hi Manfred,

I presume you are using the Windows Server 2003 Enterprise edition as the
standard version does not support multicast.

Can you post the exact error message? Also, do you get the same error when
you disable the "WMS Multicast Data writer" plug-in in the
Properties->Multicasting of publishing point and then try to start the
publishing point ?

Thx,
Ravi

I don't have Windows Server 2003 but I think I read that you have to have
the Enterprise version to do multi-casting.  Do you have Windows Server 2002
Enterprise?  Might be worth checking out.
