Hello,

May be this has been already asked probably but cant find anything on this
to help me solve my problem.

Basicaly i want to build some kind of webtv made of on demand elements for
the most parts. I m using a windows media server where on demand elements are
stored with the playlists (wsx files).

I did create a publishing point for my playlist to have my live stream up.
But i get a small buffer time between each element of my playlist,. Is there
a way to have a continuous live stream without any buffering between elements
? (beside the first buffering you get at the connection of course).

Also, we dont plan to stream to users directly but we use a cdn who is
pulling the live stream from our server, but the cdn is pulling what we give
..and what we give is not a continuous stream ...

Any idea would be welcome :)

It sounds like the main cause of buffering could be the CDN, so if you
don't own or manage those devices, there's not mcuh you can do.

This article has info on buffering delays, and indicates disabling
fast start on the publishing point might be one approach : See
"Disabling the Server Buffer and Fast Start"

What kind of publishing point have you made?
I also see this kind of behaviour when using a VOD publishing point

Thank you for the first answer s:)

The publishing point is a broadcast one (unicast), streaming from elements
within a wsx.

Why not send a sample of your wsx playlist ?

We use a deynamicaly generated wsx where we insert ads before the actual
clip. Sometimes, WMPlayer stops after it has played the ad and goes over
to a "Ready" state instead of continuing to play the clip. It looks like
it tries to connect and even sometimes it begins to play (I see the
status and bitrate of the clip) but then it just stops

Our wsx example:
<?wsx version="1.0"?><smil>
<media mediaName="Ad" src="F:\rc4\1_ad.wmv"/>
<media mediaName="Content" src="F:\rc4\1_encoder_ad.wmv"/>
</smil>

What could this be related to?
Any ideas ??

No idea here, thouhg i use the exact type/suntax as your wsx file and no
trouble chainning them at all.

example :

<?wsx version="1.0"?>
<smil>
    <media src="el1.wmv" mediaName="intro1"/>
    <media src="el2.wmv" mediaName="ad1"/>
    <media src="el3.wmv" mediaName="mainpart1"/>
    <media src="el4.wmv" mediaName="end1"/>
</smil>

I still get a small buffering between each elements (going to see with the
cdn if anything can be done) but no problem with the chainning.
