I ran an extremely large program yesturday which saved thousands of files to
folders and i watched my cache grow greatly.  I restarted my computer
thinking it would get rid of the excess data but it didn't.  How can i clear
this cache? (I saw the system cache when i pressed ctrl-alt-del)

If you have restarted and the application no longer runs then you should be
safe to delete the thousands of files.
