I ran Windows update earlier tonight.
No problems installing 20 required and 3 optional updates.

When I then tried Office Update, I kept getting a message that cookies are
not enabled.
I tried all sorts of settings, nothing worked.

I then tried to set IE 6 as the default browser.
Normally, IE 6 will gleefully check whether it is default browser, but it's
not.

I can only conclude that one of the windows updates  has broken IE 6.

Any ideas on how I can run Office update?

I am using Windows 2000 SP4.

Problem was not current Windows Update.
I tried another OS that has not run Windows Update for a few months.

Same problem, so Office Update appears to be misinterpreting cookie
settings.

Problem solved.

Somehow, since I last did an Office Update, all cookies for microsoft.com
had been blocked
